Dear Greater Miami Church of God Family and Friends:
In light of recent and continuing developments concerning the coronavirus (COVID-19), I want to inform and assure you that Greater Miami Church of God is committed to the health and safety of our campus, our members, friends and guests.
We are closely following the advice of the CDC, state and local health officials and, of course, our National Administrative Bishop, in asking you to do your part to help stop the spread of this virus. You can read regular updates on how the Church of God is responding to this crisis by visiting www.churchofgod.org and/or www.flcog.cc.
In the current pandemic, while there certainly is cause for concern, the children of God have no reason for fear; therefore, throughout this crisis, we will be aware, but not anxious, prudent, but not petrified, and wary, but not worried. We will continue to be characterized by the peace that Christ has given us:” Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (Jn.14:27-njkv). In distressing and disturbing times, such as we are now experiencing, we need to remind ourselves of some of God’s “precious promises,” for example, Isaiah 26:3-4 (ESV) “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” Let us now rehearse the marvelous truths we have been learning about God through sermons and Bible studies.
Remember that although Jesus was not often acknowledged as the God-man, except for sin, He experienced the everyday situations of a normal man because He lived, worked, and ministered in a world impacted by the Fall (Hebrews 4:15): “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin”. Therefore, Jesus can completely identify with our physical and emotional needs.
As we prayerfully and wisely navigate through the challenging days ahead, also remember that this is still “our Father’s world.” God is still in control. He never surrendered control of His world to some virus. As R.C. Sproul has said, “There cannot be a single maverick {not under His supreme control} molecule anywhere in the universe that is outside of God’s sovereignty.”
Let me end by urging all of us as believers, particularly in this time of anxiety and uncertainty, to function as salt and light, influencing the world, advancing Christ’s kingdom and bringing honor to His name. We can accomplish this by reflecting and acting on the Word of God in Philippians 4:6-7: “ Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” (MSG)
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace (2Cor. 1:2) is my sincere prayer for your health and safety.
